Vissla & Hobie are proud to present “The Big One”, in collaboration with the City of Dana Point, a surf swap and vintage market hosted by The Vintage Surfboard Collector Club
Celebrating over 30 years in Dana Point, this upcoming event will feature pivotal shapers and collectors from all over, with vintage boards, vintage clothing and memorabilia on display and for sale. In addition there will be the coveted Best In Show contest.
The Big One” Best In Show will be judged and decided throughout the day by guest judges like Jeff Alter and Herbie Fletcher.
Plenty of raffles and awards will be had, and a beer garden, vintage cars, and good times.

BEST IN SHOW - 60’s Noserider
Contest Starts at 1PM in front of HOBIE
Criteria: The Noserider or noseriding design must be vintage, built during the 1960s. The board does not need to be a specific “model,” but it should be crafted with noseriding in mind. Judges will consider the board’s provenance, the intention and effectiveness of its shape, glasswork quality, and rarity. A standout example might be a noserider from the 1965-66 Morey Pope Noseriding Invitational.
Judges: Our judging panel includes Jeff Alter (son of Hobie Alter and Executive Director at SHACC), Eric “Bird” Huffman (San Diego surf icon and board collector), Timmy Patterson (surfboard craftsman and legacy Hobie team member), and JJ Wessels (local surfer, shaper, and artist).
Awards: Prizes include Hobie gift cards ($150 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd), $100 gift cards from Bear Coast, and three pairs of Hobie Polarized sunglasses.
Additional Raffle: Hobie will raffle off two shaped blanks from Gary Larson and Adam Davenport. The winner is responsible for glasswork, with Hobie assisting with the facilitation of the desired glasswork.
